Naucratius Feeding Ministry
For over a decade, Christ Church and Tulsa Boiler Room Church have collaborated to serve a hot meal to the Tulsa community in need. Thursday Day Night Lights is a feeding ministry at Tulsa Boiler Room Church; Christ Church collaborates with them once a month. The Order of Naucratius and Christ Church recently fed 150 people with wild-caught fish from around Oklahoma. Christ Church's youth group breaded the fish, and everyone shared a delicious meal together.
The Rev. Sarah Smith, associate priest at Christ Church and coordinator for the Order of Naucratius, shared with us the goal of the event, “The goal of this event is to feed God's people and be in relationship with God's people. We want to model Jesus' life, death, and resurrection by giving the gifts we have received freely, as Christ did with his. There are a couple of lovely stories in the gospels about Jesus feeding people with fish, so I thought we should take that extra literally, given that the Order of Naucratius loves to harvest and share wild fish! This work is fundamental to our identity as the Church, the body of Christ. Jesus told Peter, the foundation of the Church, to feed his sheep. We are continuing that work and legacy to share God's gifts with God's people. This is what love looks like on the ground in our community. Jesus also had an affinity for the poor and marginalized, so we prioritize feeding those in need in our context of Tulsa.”
Sarah shared their goals for the future, "We will do this monthly, and Naucratius plans to donate venison and wild boar at least quarterly! I'm thinking venison chili is next on the menu rotation as we go into fall!"
