Iona School
The Iona School of Formation equips individuals called to serve in the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma as deacons or bi-vocational priests. This comprehensive program provides rigorous training in essential areas including Biblical Studies, Church History, Theology, and Ethics, ensuring graduates meet all canonical requirements for ordained ministry.
Beyond academics, Iona fosters practical ministry skills through courses including pastoral care, preaching, congregational development, and worship leadership. Since its launch in 2011, over 48 graduates have transitioned into active ministry roles, contributing significantly to the diocese
Iona Collaborative
Oklahoma's program is part of a larger initiative known as the Iona Collaborative, hosted by the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest. This collaborative network, encompassing over a third of Episcopal Church dioceses, offers a shared foundation for the formation of laypeople, deacons, and priests. The Iona Collaborative closely collaborates with individual bishops, ensuring alignment with their specific diocesan needs.
Learning Environment
The Iona School of Formation fosters a unique learning environment where students gather one weekend per month, from September to June, over three years. This immersive format allows for deep engagement with the curriculum. But Iona goes beyond just intellectual growth. The program places significant emphasis on cultivating a strong spiritual foundation through prayer and reflection, fostering well-rounded individuals prepared for effective ministry.
